Blacks and Whites and Brights

This week, there has been more playing around with black and white and bright colours - and adding in a nod to circles and ovals ... with maybe a vague reference to mosaics with a future exhibition requirement in mind.

I think I've recently been trying to develop something I've unconsciously had in mind for sometime - the possibility of juxtaposing black and white and bright colours and working in stitch in a more graphic and abstract way.

Though the colour reproduction is disappointing here, I feel  this is a step nearer to what I'm after and see this possibly as a large wall piece. The solid, dashed and dotted lines give an ordered contrast to the 'scribbled' colour in the tiles and there is a good interplay of shapes.

Now I need to complete some small experimental tile shapes to work out the stitch lines and some possible ways to represent the blocks of colour.... interesting times.....

  1. I'm loving this, it's going to be difficult to maintain that wonderful interplay of the static tiles and the lively and dynamic circle shapes.Stitch can all to easily weigh down a design but I guess the challenge is what we are all fascinated by.

    1. You've identified the challenge in a nutshell! Just what I want to achieve.... Must do some small trials to see if I can find a way to pull it off...

  2. The circles have a real stitchy feel to them and work well with the more solid squares.

  3. Thanks very much for your comment - it's very reassuring to know that someone else can see my thoughts as I drew the circles!

    1. I will share indeed Marny. I hope to start tomorrow - machine and hand stitch indeed - a frequent mixture for me. I rarely use machine stitch alone. I love the feeling of cloth in hand as I hand stitch and also the greater control over marks and their position - or maybe it's just that I don't have full control of my machine...!
