Greetings for the season

A version of our Christmas card for this year comes with my very best wishes for a good and happy time as the year turns. Its source will no doubt be clear to readers of my more recent blog posts!

With it come good wishes for a creative and enriching New Year and, for those of you who will be celebrating Christmas with families and friends, I hope it will be a happy one.

I can only thank you for visiting my blog in such amazing numbers over the year and from such an extraordinary list of far flung destinations It never ceases to amaze me that my thoughts stretch so far - even when I go off-message for a while.  I send special thanks to those who take the time to comment. The responses and encouragement I receive are always so welcome and give context to what I do. In turn, it is such a pleasure to read your blogs and to see so much interesting and thought-provoking work being done.

This all goes to prove what a great medium of communication this is when used well!

  1. Margaret, I hope that you have a happy time over Christmas.

I agree that the Internet and Blogs can be thoroughly enriching in a way we never imagined - although I do still love receiving the unfortunately diminishing numbers of physical cards and letters throughout the year.

  4. Beautiful card! And like you said, similar to the tree card I posted! Although the trees on your card are not as knobbly and funny shaped as the Yukon trees I took pictures of! You also asked how I got the colour in the ground on my card. Below is my answer - that I also posted on my blog. Thanks so much for visiting my blog throughout the year. I too also love visiting yours! The red stitching on your trees is beautiful!
The subtle coloured ground was part photograph, part computer manipulation. The trees are right beside a lake, and the day was a bit foggy - this helped keep the composition simple. There was also some snow on the ground - but not too much to cover the grasses yet. From there I used the picassa program to manipulate the colour on the ground and around the edge of the image. - Hope that helps!

    1. Thank you for your detailed answer, Kim. Your use of the Picasa programme is interesting as I use only Photoshop Elements - but I guess the two have much in common. As you may have seen on my blog, I have recently done a further online course to improve my skills which covers combining two images and manipulating backgrounds, both of which might help to alleviate the strict black and white I generally employ. Your image has suggested what is possible, but I need to practice... !
