Elusive indigo

This is without doubt the trickiest colour in the Roy G Biv spectrum. As usual, I'm struggling to work out what colour I'm seeking, and having decided what to look for, to find things to photograph that seem to be somewhere near the right colour.

These are my attempts in that rich, purplish blue that I see as indigo, mostly from my photo archives ...

Carriage access through a C16th building in Suffolk, UK,

a painted window shutter on Burano, Venice,

indigo clad tourists visiting the ruined Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire,

a stack of corrugated iron roofing and other metal in a boatyard in Abersoch, North Wales

and last of all, a deep blue iris in the gardens of Malmesbury Abbey, near where I live.

Julie B Booth has wonderful indigos on her blog, together with links to other participants.

  1. Hi Margaret- Thanks for playing along...I always find indigo to be a challenge! The spectrum color and the dye color are so different. I love how you found indigo hiding in your photos. That shutter really "sings"!

  3. I like these indigos - and the fact that we both found it in Iris. Happy Solstice!

    1. I just (and only just) caught mine before it was past. It was an extraordinarily rich colour not quite caught by the camera.

  4. What a fun exercise! And I love it that you even caught the indigo clad tourists. It really does teach one how to really look and observe, doesn't it? Great stuff!

    1. You're so right - it does make one look. Since starting to take part in this exercise each month, I definitely look at colour differently

    1. But it's fascinating, as always to see everyone's solutions.

  6. Love all the different tones of the same colour you have found, especially the boat yard picture.

    1. That boatyard has appeared in my blog photos before ... such lovely tones of grey and brown and purple in the painted and rusting metal ...
