Following our recent visits to various gardens here in Aberdeenshire, I spent a miserable, grey and occasionally drizzly afternoon (that wonderfully expressive word dreich in the local dialect) drawing poppies in preparation for some new work. I annoyingly had only a pencil, sharpie pen and some oil pastels at my disposal, having left my watercolours at home.
Working with mixed media stitched textiles gives me great pleasure. As well as the joy in the art of making and exploring, there are the friendships formed as work grows.

Garden in Bloom
Staying in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, right now as we often do, we visited Crathes Castle near Banchory on a beautiful sunny day. The early summer flowers were at their best.
These red and yellow poppies caught my eye in the June border in the lower garden, surrounded by pink lupins and rich purple irises.
