Asemic text with stitch

Since my last post, I've been experimenting with generating asemic text in stitch on organza. I found this far more difficult than with pens and inks / dyes on paper. It is of necessity slower and so much less spontaneous and this really inhibited the free flow of the lines I was creating.

However, I have a small sample to show which I have placed over some of the pen and ink work that I showed last time. As I stitched, I tried to echo the shapes in both written forms and in recent bridge inspired work with a view to using this technique to interrupt the solidity of some of the bridge structures.

This is very much work in progress ...

  1. I very much like the combination of stitch with pen.

    1. Thanks for your encouragement as always, Olga. I spent some time this morning playing with some more mark-making in various media and last night stitched in white on organza for a change. I'm quite like what's happening, though, as this is a bit of a change in direction, lots more trying out will be needed before I settle on the larger piece I'm aiming for.

    1. Thank you, Wendy. The black and white contrasts are so beguiling ... and now adding texture and layers as well is giving me so much to play with ... I'm really enjoying myself!

  3. Are you hand- or machine stitching? I think you're doing an excellent job with it!

    1. I'm hand stitching this time. It gives me more control over the quality of stitch and I can more easily use a much wider range of thread.

    1. Thank you, Marny. I've not really used organza much in the past but for this technique and the need for layering it's invaluable and I'm really enjoying experimenting with it. I will post more when anything interest develops.
