Weaving update

I've been weaving hard these last few days. The pressure is on with an exhibition at the end of March and much other work to complete.

This update shows the next section of my piece - progress with some stronger colours now included.

A decision I will have to make as I finish will be what to do with all those gorgeous ends. There are far too many to leave all dangling. That would definitely be overkill ... but some and along some of the length might be a great way to suggest the growth and profusion of summer.

Such thoughts always crop up as I work and can change perception of a piece ...

  1. Loving this piece, the choice of colour works so well and the eccentric weft.

    1. Thanks for your comment. My wefts are always eccentric! I seem drawn to those wandering lines even when I'm weaving.

  2. Really beautiful. How interesting that you're tying the weft ends around the side beam of the loom. What a great idea.

    1. There are actually two things happening in the photo - difficult to see I now realise. One is me tying off as I go along to keep the side of the weaving straight. For this I use small lengths of warp thread and stitch them through the weaving and then tie them round the frame. The other thing is the multitude of coloured weft ends which are not tied round the frame but left fairly long to give me flexibility when I've finished weaving. In the photo they are just draped around the frame. Maybe I'll try tying them round the frame another time!

  3. I love the gentle undulations of the pattern, and the introduction of the deep reds. I'm looking forward to seeing how the ends resolve...I suppose one nice thing about all of the time a project like this takes is that you can consider the many possibilities as you're working with the materials. Anyway - just lovely!

    1. You have hit on one of the reasons I so enjoy working in this way - I can change and adapt and rethink as I work. There is plenty of opportunity to take advantage of those happy accidents as I go along.

    1. Fingers crossed it goes as I'm imagining! I will post further as it develops.

  5. The colours are looking really good. I love those stripes of sparkling white which make the reds sing.

    1. And now I have some fine leather to cut into strips and try following a visit to a friend in Somerset ... not sure where that will lead!

  6. Love the look of this woven piece … the colour, design, texture and the warmth it emanates … especially to this Canadian in the snowy, cold Arctic Draft ;)
