Doodling and drawing again

I've been doodling in stitch again, partly to work out the hand stitching lines on my large Geology piece, and partly for therapy. This time, I made my stitch large, in Perlé 5, and free-flowing.

I've also been drawing to help with shape and direction of machine stitching lines. This was great fun to do but I'm not sure how much either approach is going to help with the final piece.

I'm still struggling with it.

Although I have some lovely painted fabric, now it's dried, it doesn't seem to relate hugely to these drawings or to my original plans so I'm going to have to think hard.

Then as I'm not sure which is the most interesting and I haven't got time to investigate these approaches any further, I'll have to make a decision.

  1. I love those gently undulating lines of stitch and the lovely colours of your dyed/painted background. I find hand stitching very therapeutic once I have worked out where I want it to be!
I also love your snowy photos on your previous post. Fresh snow makes everywhere look so beautiful but I have had enough of it now and am looking forward to seeing the snowdrops come into bloom.

  2. Thank you very much for your comments. It is always lovely to get feedback. I too enjoy hand stitch - more, if I'm honest, than machining which often seems to be a means to an end for me.

  3. I've been reading through your posts and am enjoying your work and hearing about your process. I know what you mean about creating pieces for a group show. I have a number of "weed" fabrics and plan to do a map series...been enjoying making the fabrics...but not sure where it is all going. Plan to stop in and see your progress.

In answer to your question about Roy G Biv (I've also commented on my blog), Yes, those would have been a great selection to share. We'll be announcing next month's color soon so hope you will join in next month.--Julie

    1. Very many thanks for your comments - and for joining my blog. It's so good to hear from people.

I will post my geology piece once it's finished - hopefully in 2 weeks' time!
